The Product: Blue and white lampshade in Hungarian stripe

This large, blue and white lampshade – perfect for a sculptural floor lamp or simple pendant fitting – has a presence in spades. Patterned lampshades are having a bit of a renaissance at the moment. Some provide subtle, small-scale, all-over pattern while others command your attention. This eye-catching design does the latter.

The Lowdown

Crisp blue and white colours, an extra-wide diameter, a straight, drum silhouette and the smart, linear pattern create contrast, interest and a talking point in the space. The design, by textile designer Julia Brendel, is inspired by 19th century Hungarian embroidered tablecloths and folk costumes. Styling Ideas?

This lampshade is very much an atmospheric addition to any room providing mood lighting as opposed to functional task lighting. The shade is lined with copper-coloured PVC and casts a subtle, warm glow above and below the shade when illuminated. In these images we pictured the decorative shade with both floor and table lamps; the simple yet stylish, white-washed, turned-wood ‘Moonshine’ floor lamp base to add softness and rusticity and the ‘Verona’ table lamp base both by fab lighting brand Pooky Lights.

The Detail

The lampshade fabric is made from 100% cotton and the PVC lining is flame retardant. The shade measures 35cm high x 50cm wide (shade diameter) and does not require a shade carrier (shade comes with an adjustable plastic ring that fits directly onto the bulb carrier of your table or floor lamp base, ready to be screwed tight in place).
