The Product: Japanese floral art black and white brooch

Delicately hand-painted, this porcelain, black and white brooch showcases Japanese floral art in miniature. These beautiful brooches would make a thoughtful gift for fans of elegant, artisan-made craft, handmade jewellery or Japanese design.

The Lowdown

The brooch originates from the studio of talented, Japanese ceramicist Miyu Kurihara. The Frankfurt-born artist studied art and textile design in both Japan and London. She employs traditional brush techniques to decorate each porcelain brooch by hand. Watch this fascinating short clip to see the artist at work in her ceramics studio. Miyu draws upon her heritage, taking her cues from traditional blue and white Asian ceramics, as well as Japanese kimono designs. The results, however, possess a decidedly modern sensibility.

Styling Ideas

This brooch is a quirky and delightful addition to any outfit. I can imagine it pinned to a linen lapel, used to fasten a plain silk scarf at the neck, decorating a collar or even pinned to a beret or hatband.

The Detail
